Many adventuring parties exist in Tellaria. In many cases, they operate in a “for-hire” manner, similar to mercenaries or private detectives. Some adventurers set up a base of operations in a local tavern or inn, others buy or build their own base of operations, and some scrappy adventuring parties do their business right out of their carriage—a mobile base on the road! The main goal is to have somewhere where people who want to hire you can find you.
As a group, you should give some thought to what your adventuring party is like. What are their motivations or general objectives? Are they focused on solving the problems of peasants, or are they after the rich clientele? How do they decide which jobs to take (or which ones they absolutely won't)?
Some general motivations:
As you gain experience and renown, you may need to hire people to help manage your business while you’re out on a job, or you may want to start or invest in a new business! Maybe you decide to buy the tavern you’ve been running your business out of. Maybe you want to start a secretive thieves’ guild. Maybe you build a wizard’s tower, or a fortified keep, or a chapel, or an orphanage, or an opera house, or...
You don’t need to decide these things right away, but keep the idea in the back of your mind. How do you think your character (by themselves) or the party (all together) should spend all that sweet, sweet cash they’ll be making?
