Creating a character in D&D is a lot of up-front work, particularly because there are so many options and so much...reading. But I’ve tried to structure this to make it as smooth as possible, taking things step by step. This page will walk you through the process, and also note relevant details about the world of Tellaria to help you fill out details about your character. There is also a zip file that has a bunch of resources for each step, numbered in the same order as here. The wiki and the zip file are designed to be used in tandem.
There is a general fillable PDF character sheet in the zip file, but I’ve also included character sheets that are a bit more tailored to each class, under the “2. Class” folder. I’d recommend using them, though either one is fine. So you may want to hold off filling in information until you’ve selected a class.
One thing to note is that D&D has a set of “core rulebooks”, including the Player’s Handbook (2014), but they have also expanded things further with later books: primarily Xanathar’s Guide to Everything (2017) and Tasha’s Cauldron of Everything (2020). The later books build and expand on the earlier ones, but having to look through multiple books to create a character ends up making things more complex. I’ve pulled out all the bits and pieces from each book to include them in each section (in the zip file), to hopefully make it a bit easier to browse through them.
Above all, please remember two things:
Once you have everything complete and you're happy with it, send it to me (the DM).
I've also included a folder in the zip file with a number of pregenerated characters. To create these, I've completed steps 1, 2, 3, and 5 above, which handles most of the mechanical choices and works out all the math. You are absolutely free to use one of these pregenerated characters—but let the group know so two people don't pick the same one. You're also free to use these characters as a scaffold if you want to create a character that's slightly different.
If you choose one of these, skip ahead to step 4 above. Spellcaster characters (i.e. the paladin, warlock, sorcerer, and bard) will also need to do step 6.
