Pronunciation: PEER-ith
Pyrith is a region of a loose collection of independent city-states, each with their own government structure. The cities are relatively cosmopolitan, especially the port cities, though humans and halflings generally predominate.
The city-states:
Some of these cities are deeply suspicious of magic-users, and local attitudes may turn to hostility if magic spells are cast within the city.
Some of the city-states in Pyrith have adopted a form of democracy, and others plutocracy (rule of the rich). Others are governed by councils of lords (oligarchy) or a hereditary ruler.
The differences between these cities leads to plenty of local politics between them, as they make and break alliances, band together in defence, etc.
Pyrith is a rough analogue of ancient Greece. Humans from this region might have names like Ephoros, Didymos, Philandra, Eurymede.
