Pronunciation: CAY-dern
Caedyrn is a nation of islanders, scattered across a cluster of islands. They are a highly seafaring society, boasting the largest marine fleet in the world—though they are rarely unified.
Each island is ruled by a jarl, and generally has its own laws and customs. In situations of war, the jarls meet to discuss whether to join together for defense.
Most people here are human; people of other ancestries are likely here as a result of marriage, or have proven themselves a “friend” of the Caedyrnians (usually by saving a Caedyrnian's life in some way, or proving themselves in battle). Outsiders are otherwise not generally welcome—tolerated at best. Merchants may stay for short periods of time to trade, but successful merchants find ways to prove themselves a “friend”.
Caedyrn is a rough Viking or Scandinavian analogue. Humans from this region might have names like Asbjorn, Ingfast, Grima, Astrid.
